Civil War Patriotic CDV Boy w Drum 1862 JP Soule

eBayer kbcb ( 2836) lists eBay item no. 310180284976, described as follows:

Civil War Patriotic CDV Boy w Drum 1862 JP Soule
Patriotic CDV of a boy beating a drum. Title is "To Arms! Freemen to Arms!" Photographer is John P. Soule. It's copyrighted 1862 by W.M. Hunt (not sure why Soule didn't copyright it, unless Hunt is the artist who depicted the boy).

The text at the bottom of the CDV appears to be:

[GRAPHIC]

W.M. HUNT, NY SOULE & SOTO

TO ARMS! FREEMEN TO ARMS!

Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1869 by W.M. Hunt in the Clerk's Office of the District of Mass

Published by J.P. Soule, 199 Wash St. Boston

Note: These CDV's were sold by sutlers to Civil War soldiers. A sutler usually built stores close to army encampments and sold provisions and supplies. The soldiers quite often inserted these CDV's into their personal photo albums. Source: Worthopedia - Premier Price Guide

Further Note: Photography
The first photograph was a view from a window in France taken in 1826. The commercially successful photograph started with the daguerreotype introduced in 1839. Today all sorts of photographs and photographic equipment are collected. Albums were popular in Victorian times. Cartes de visite, popular after 1854, were mounted on 2 1/2-by-4-inch cardboard. Cabinet cards were introduced in 1866. These were mounted on 4 1/4 x 6 1/2-inch cards. Read more. Source: Kovels.com
