Civil war drum. a) The drum features a wooden shell, two animal hide drum heads, and two wooden hoops to secure the heads. The drum parts are held together by rope threaded through metal rings attached to the hoops. Leather tabs are wrapped around the rope laces. A painted ten-pointed star surrounded by a ring of diamonds and five-pointed stars is inlaid on one side of the shell. b) A red shoulder strap is attached by a metal hook to the drum. The strap is not the original one.
